Wiring Shift cut input(ground) to EC18-8

Can i use this input as my shift cut input.   its my only one left with pullup and protection.

labeled as wheel speed on my spec sheet.

No, wheelspeed input cannot be used as shiftcut input.

is protection a necessity when wiring a ground trigger to the pullup?
