Those 4A-GE engines sound lovely, nice snappy response too.

4AGE, Wisecos 11:1?, cleaned 295cc injectors,
272/7.5mm TRD cams
> Intake. max lift set at 100° ATDC.
> Exhaust. max lift set at 98° BTDC.
4-2-1 header and 2" exhaust.

End ersult: 160 HP / 135ftlb TQ

Dyno on the way, and the maps for before/after analysis.

Yes on the 16v that´s a okay result,

I just think it´s really expinsive, to get there, VS getting a blacktop, that will make the same HP, and a lot more bottum end power.

I got a 20 feet container home from malaysia, filled with GZE frontcuts and Blacktop engines, and a single GtI-R Nissan sr20 frontcut,

the price for the blacktop engines, was as low as 100£, some upto 180£, and i put one in my AE86, and tuned it with a VEMS, and got 161hp/8100rpm, and 165nm/6050omdr, but there is 150 nm from 33oo rpm and all the way to 8500rpm,
That was on a standard AE86 Walker exhaust, and i´m sure that i could have gotten 10hp, with a free flowing exhaust,

But the i put gze pistons, and stuff in the engine, as it´s not easy to live with the tq that a small engine makes, when used to turbo,

And i then mounted a small TD04 from a Impreza my99, and made 270hp and 350nm, and a low boost of 1,2bar dropping of at higher rpm..

So you'd best post up the project with the 20V here then :D

We've done 20v on VEMS :D

Also a friend of mine builds race 20v 4AGEs.
150ft/lb TQ over a 4500rpm spread :D

I agree its a better engine, but loads of people still have 16v in their AE86.

Theres lots of affordable parts for them and theyre still a great little engine.
20v are cheap if your buy by the 20ft container load ;D
But if your on a budget finding a good affordable one off 20v can be tricky.

Anyway, the beauty of vems is that if your 16v/20v dies you can swap in either a 16v/20v and have it running in no time :D
In fact you can run almost any engine setup you like once youve got VEMS.

Were still trying to find tuners who'll work with VEMS so this is a hopefully a big success for us.
I'll try and get feedback on the tuners experience too.
And yeah, post up your 20v project, make a valuable contribution for once  ;D ::) *runs and hides behind the couch wearing a flameproof suit*

The trooble is that i did promise Rob, that i would post it up,
but it´s been almost a year since i worked on it, and i have forgotten most, as i have been through lots of Subaru´s since,
But i will make a write up of the next i´m making, the guy who have the car is just still making rust on it,
But the setup in this AE86 will be the exact same as the one in mine, minus the ITB´s, that was a bit to on and off with boost

4AGE Blacktop, freshly brored to suit new o.5mm Os GZE 8,9:1 pistons,ACL Racebearings, early GZE rods,2mm cometic, ARP bolts allover,550cc injector, and a Walbro
And i IlligalGarage Clutch, and i W58 gearbox.
Then just a small Subaru turbo from the leftover, running 1,2-1,3bar, ,and the 4age really begs to be run hard :)

You guys could look at my Wikiside, regarding the AE86, it´s not that well documented, but it´s there. ???

this is what i´m working on this weekend... this will suck in a AE86, if it´s gets in the way.........

Heres the dynos showing the RPM bins vs power curve.
As Im told, the rpm bins make no real difference when the lambda target is set correctly?
HP shows fairly smooth power delivery.
272/7.5mm lift, no real extra lift over stock, very much a midrange cam?

Pretty happy with results.

it´s looking good,

Looks like it could use some advance around 3600rpm, can´t you feel the dip?

Tuner didnt move RPM bins.
Because dip is between rpm bins I suspect he could tune it out.
Is there anyway to analyse a map and redetermine optimum linear RPM transition points?

The datalog should confirm the VE table, spark can be analysed a little using the logs too

Looks good, but I've never seen a 4age with "bigger" cams and itb's making max power so low, 7000rpm right?
What itb's are you using? they don't look very long to be making max power that low.

I've just did a small-port upgrade on my AE86 and it makes 142hp at 73-7400rpm with stock big-port cams.

Kristian

T3 stacks.
Duration is 272, but lift is effectivly stock.
That makes it a mid range only cam.
272 requires higher compression to support torque, so wiseco 11:1 used.
Cams are as per TRD spec, reasonably specced exhaust.
Simple setup, nice results.  ;D

Vid frmo AE86 club meet at Mondello Ireland 2 weeks ago.

Gold wide arched AE86 at start is running VEMS.
high comp pistons, ae92 head w/mild prot I think, 264 8.1mm lift IN/256 8.1mm lift EX.
Have current cam timing somewhere. Running on a base map from another big cam AE86.
Unmapped it was overtaking 20v and other modified 16v all day!

Blue AE86 at the 15second mark is running vems.
Fully mapped, it is the car this thread was started for (since resprayed).

Another clip of the blue AE86 this thread was started for.
