Super Saloon with Zetec
« on: April 05, 2009, 11:17:51 pm »
hello guys
I have just finished a zetec install into a super saloon and i cant get it to run i have a lamba map ve map and spark table to try from rob and done the base settings it has 36-1 trigger wheel as standard and throttle bodies it goes to fire and then dies almost as soon as it fires most iv had rpm wise is 5-600 rpm befor it backfires both inlet and exhaust, cam timing is spot on it is using wasted spark coil set up can anybody shed any light as to where i should be looking to get it to idle

Have you tried increasing the cranking pulse widths?

tryed putting the pw up on cranking was 2.1 at 70'c and 12 at -40 so went up to 5/15 and 10/ 20 just got bigger backfire . i get 2 maybe 3 cycles befor the cut and backfire

its so close to running yet just wont kick in tryed lots of things in various topics but none seem to make any diff

im lost as to where i am wrong my lamba low end map is set to lamba 1.0 ignition around 10 -14 degrees when at cranking speed and up to 1000rpm (was higher when started but reduced to get where i am now which seems better) and ve table is 18-30 in the idle area would put maps up but unsure how to get them onto the foram

i have put up afterstart fueling to 1000 from 300 to try hold the fuel in longer

i seem to be getting beaten up by a ecu and feel im on the ropes about to throw the towel in iv been trying all week and no success its bound to be something silly but i cant see what.

iv checked vr missing tooth and its 90' before tdc im running wasted spark through the ec36 plug it is set to dummy on a zetec coil and 03.00 . charge time 3.78ms @ 12 v and an extra 2ms @ 6v

injectors come in at 315 cc its a 2 ltr so req fuel is set at 10.8

Might it be kicking back?  If the ignition is much greater than 10degrees at cranking you're likely to get ignition before the piston is at TDC, try putting it down to 5.
You have checked that the timing is spot on with a timing light haven't you?  Wasted spark can fool a lot of timing lights (you know this but I'm just typing everything that comes into my head).
Currently you're not on the tables, until the engine speed gets higher than the cranking threshold the ECU is soley using the cranking settings.

thanks for replys been on a citroen technical meeting today so had no access to the net,

the advance kicking back is why iv been dropping the ignition back cloaser to tdc as base map was around 20 when i started and seems best around 9-11 but need to try more areas now pw's have been put up im also going to start to check components as idle should not be as hard to achieve as i am finding

will check flow rate manually in a bit into a container as then i can be 100% sure what they are delivering

also found a spark table plotter for spacific comp ratios / multi valve so that has given me in theory a good spark map for my engine

Cool, remember though that if your cranking threshold is up at 1000, you wont be getting onto the maps as the ECU will not consider the engine to be running yet.

Listen to bob on the kick back issue.
We changed a motor we built to 4 degrees spark on startup.
It really helped things!
