Title: All coil power outputs stay on, no pulsing.
Post by: smurfinator on January 15, 2017, 02:42:51 pm
Was running smooth with new CPS trigger on the flywheel and cam sync.  Trigger file looks great.  Engine smooth etc.  Suddenly runs like it's on four cylinders (out of eight) and has no power to even pull into the garage.  All fuses good.  When I hook up my 12v LED indicator to the coil plugs it stays illuminated when ignition on without blinking.  All 8 outputs do this.  Er... has something died inside?

The engine still runs.  :/?

more likely some grounding failed :)

bl000000000dy 'ell, I just checked all of those.  Well, thank you for the info.  I shall re-check.

YIKES!  Checked all grounds and they are solid, but I was running the engine to adjust the ISV settings and bumped the VEMS as it was hanging down under the dash and ENGINE SHUT OFF!

Time to check the econoseal crimps. I guess.

good to know you found something ;)

I have triple checked all the grounds and relays and power wires and can't find a fault anywhere.  Still only constant on from the coil power - no pulsing.  This is weird.  Where do I start diagnostics?

how you are measuring it?

Tugging on wires and visual inspection, but problem went away when I realized that I am dumb - nevermind the details.  Now that I am mostly done with the overwhelming problem solving, I will rebuild all the grounds with a nice batch of lugs I found with heavy heatshrink sheath already on them.  Class kit!
