Post by: krzak on May 24, 2010, 12:07:38 PM
Hello

I think about use only cam in missing tooth mode 4-1....
What do you think about this.... :)
Is this is possible on VEMS?

If you use only the cam trigger you risk running a very sloppy ignition timing, you should have the primary trigger on the crank.  The cam signal is not sensitive to timing errors, so you must assume that it can be the case here. Honda did use a crank trigger too on this engine, they probably did so for a good reason.

I would cut one tooth from the crank trigger, and two teeth from the cam, to make a "12-1" primary trigger and one tooth cam sync.

Preferrably the cam sync uses a Hall type trigger sensor. What type is on the crank trigger wheel?

I would use 12 original teeth on crank and modified cam signal with one pulse. Assuming 12 teeth wheel is inside crankcase (?). But you have be sure for cam impulse: it should be safely between two cranktooth.

Thx for fast response....mattias
I think make 12+1
I want cut 2 teeth from cam......stay 1
What tooth will be best to stay for vems sync.....I heard cam tooth must be after rev on last cyl (in 4cyl is 2 ) and 1cylinder is this thruth?

Yes GintsK....12 teeth wheel is inside crankcase

I've got 2 FJ20 engines running - both used a 36-1 trigger wheel.  The cam sync worked for a bit on one and then just stopped, so we just went to a 12-1 but it was as noisey as hell and misfired - I am pretty sure that they could have messed with resistors to pull the signal into shape but the 36-1 just worked so well.
