HI. ..
How would you connect a vems round rpm pickup to engine running a old fashion distributor and single coil.
The engine is a vw type 1 boxer running with carb and distributor.... totally old fashion ;-)
Thanks Mads

If it's still points ignition, that would require some filtering electronics. If it's electronic ignition, just input into a hall sensor configured trigger, select coil type for Trigger Type, number of teeth of full engine cycle will be the number of cylinders. You'll have to play with the timing light to enter the other parameters, but this is a common setup. BTW, if it's points ignition now, I'd insist the customer upgrade to electronic ignition. I've done that in every distributor with points I come across and have never looked back.

It uses points.... its meant as a tool dialing in carburettors..... when you say electronic.... do you mean something like this http://vwparts.aircooled.net/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=91844 ???

That link is exactly what I meant. It will provide a nice square wave output. Usually they come with an ignition box to drive the coil. If the VEMS is temporary, you'll need that ignition box. If the VEMS is permanent to drive the coil, then the ignition box isn't needed. Just use an IGBT output.

Out from memory.... There is no ignition box.... The pertronix unit connects directly to coil

so you just will need ignitor

Hmm... but the pertronix is the ignitor ? Do you want to connect the pertronix ignitor to another ignitor ?
