VEMS on AE86
« on: January 26, 2007, 08:26:27 pm »
Need the pin out information on the above coilpacks so they can be wired to the VEMS on this AE86 rallycar.

Cheers to bob for the following information:

I did a google on BAE 04 coil and found the Weber Alpha instructions
http://www.webcon.co.uk/newitems/ACM-4.0a-S.pdf

If you look at Page 57 it shows something claming to be a BAE 04 coil
which looks very like the coil your brother has

http://www.webcon.co.uk/newitems/ACM-4.0a-S.pdf
It lists:
Standard 4-way minitimer connector.
Pin 1 - Coil negative plugs 1 & 4.
Pin 2 - Coil negative plugs 2 & 3.
Pin 3 - Coil positive.
Pin 4 - Common.

Can anyone tell me if PIN 4 is for the Tacho/RPM?

its possable that its for the tacho, but I'd be wanting a couple of isolating diodes and a zener to take the spikes out.

Um.... can you make that and send the wire in the post with a directional arroy on it pointing toward tacho.

Is it not on the plug side of the loom?
If not I can hurl one your direction.

I cant rightly remember if theres a single RPM wire for the gauge on the loom?
Would it just be a wire coming from somewhere both negatives are heatshrinked together or something?

There should be.  I've started connecting them to the Econoseal connectors.  If not let me know

I've not dealt with this particular coil, but sagems i have, so the info might cross over.

IF that coil has letter pin identification then :
A : supply (internal connection)
B : supply
C : cylinders 2 and 3 control
D : cylinders 1 and 4 control

On our uses with them we only use B/C/D, tacho supplied from ecu.

The only way to know for sure is to measure the resistances:
pin1->pin2 = ________Ohms
Pin1->pin3 = ________Ohms
pin1->pin4 = ________Ohms
pin2->pin3 = ________Ohms
pin2->pin4 = ________Ohms
pin3->pin4 = ________Ohms

Then we can draw a the schematic out

Ignition coil SAGEM
Monobloc coil with four outputs
Primary resistance≈ 0.5 Ω
Secondary resistance: 11 ± 1 KΩ
Tightening to 0.9 ± 0.1 daN.m
A : supply (internal connection)
B : supply
C : cylinders 2 and 3 control
D : cylinders 1 and 4 control

After messing with the circuit tester, pin 1-2 was twice the value of 1-3 and 2-3, ergo 1and2 are coilpack negatives.
Dan confimed the document Bob linked to is exactly the coilpack he has.

were wiring the coilpack as follows :D
Standard 4-way minitimer connector.
Pin 1/D - Coil negative plugs 1 & 4.
Pin 2/C - Coil negative plugs 2 & 3.
Pin 3/B - Coil positive.
Pin 4/A - Common.

Thanks to Bob and BenR for uber informative and correct info :D
